Abstract
This literature review utilizes an organizational justice perspective, focusing on how the issue of workplace fairness is perceived by workers across the globe, and how workers perceive whether they are receiving fair treatment in the workplace. An examination of academic literature from a wide range of sources from around the globe will provide a rich body of evidence. The extent of available information about employee perceptions of workplace fairness tends to create a level of confusion about how to define the issues surrounding perceptions of workplace fairness. The inability to find a set of justice and fairness characteristics that organizations can agree upon creates the need for a detailed study of the issues surrounding employee perceptions of workplace fairness. Employee perceptions of fairness may be the major factors or determinants for organizations with high employee turnover, higher productions costs related to employee turnover, and negative impacts on production levels, and product quality. Many of the articles examined in this review focus on the procedural actions and structures organization put in place to create an environment of justice in the workplace. This review may be the impetus for researchers to examine how employee perceptions of workplace fairness impacts the life and job satisfaction on workers in organizations across the globe.
