Abstract
The electrical breakdown of SF/sub 6/+Ar binary mixtures is studied experimentally under uniform electrostatic fields for different contents of SF/sub 6/ in the mixture. The total gas pressure is also varied as a parameter from 50 kPa to 200 kPa. The breakdown strength of SF/sub 6/+Ar has increased dramatically with smaller percentage of SF/sub 6/. However, for higher SF/sub 6/ contents, the breakdown voltages did increase monotonically but not dramatically.
